at what age do doberman dogs develop health problems?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

i am aware of doberman dogs developing health problems when they get older but can you tell me at what age they develop health problems such as van willdebrands disease or any other diseases they can get. so please tell me the age they develop these health problems and also can you tell their lifespan. only answer if you actually know

If you buy a pup from a breeder that has genetic testing done on their breeding stock then hopefully none of these things will occur.

The best thing you can do for any dog is to feed a species appropriate diet from puppy hood. This will prevent many health problems that are common today.

Will there still be major health problems with non pure bred pekingese dogs?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin

I mean, of course every dog is different and things happen. But do all pekingese, or any breed of purebred/inbred dogs, suffer from the same health problems as those that aren’t?

Ok I know this has to be a trick question.

When you say non purebred Pekignese, are you then referring to any dog that happens to be a mutt?

Mutts have lots of diseases, more so then Purebreds from reputable breeders.

Reputable breeders only breed healthy dogs, thus strengthening the gene pool.

Mutt breeders do not really care about dogs, they are just trying to make money, not spend it on things like health tests.

Does anybody know of a non- prescription diet for urinary tract health for dogs?

Posted on February 20th, 2010 by admin

My dog has gone through two surgeries for bladder stones and to help prevent it she needs to be on a urinary diet. She well not eat the c/d hills sience diet so i wondered if there were other dry foods out there for urinary tract health besides science diet.

No dog will starve if there is food in the bowl. Just offer the food until she eats it.

What is wrong with my dogs health?

Posted on February 18th, 2010 by admin

Okay well starting just a few days ago, out of no where my dog started to not eat. Now his stomach is bloated and he doesn’t like to walk. I dont know if this has something to do with it, but we switched his food about 3 days ago from science diet RD or WD. Then we noticed that he didnt like the food so we switched it back the next day. Also, he’s a miniture pincher if that helps at all.

It sounds like your dog has eaten something that he can’t digest and has a blockage! You need to get him to the vet NOW!!!!

health effects pf dogs and people in the same swimming pool?

Posted on February 16th, 2010 by admin

My HOA wants dogs and people to be able to swim in the same pool that is earmarked only for people. What are the health risks?

Brucellosis, Campylobacter, Cryptospoidiosis, Ehrlichosis, Hydatid disease (echinococcus), Leptospirosis, Listeriosis, Ringworm, Toxocariasis and Yersiniosis, to name a few, can be spread from dog to humans who share swimming water. (Longer list in second source).

Maybe you could make a bet with your HOA and if he/she can spell them, then everyone gets to swim with these cooties.

BUT, your question what what is the risk? That is very hard to quantify. In fact, public health law has nixed this practice so effectively, that it is nearly impossible to say what the risk is (just as we do not have good risk estimates for conditions like untreated syphilis).

Your HOA could counter: "lets see the list of diseases that HUMANS can pass to humans in swimming pools", and that list, mark my words, is indeed scary.

Alot of people care for dogs’ health, than why is a simple check-up so expensive?

Posted on February 14th, 2010 by admin

Please help me spread this questions to as much people as possible. Thanks.

Did you ever think for a minute how much it costs for a vet to be in practice??? Medical school bills for six years of college. The building, with all of its maintenance costs, taxes and utilities, equipment including cages and tables and x-ray machines and needles and a thousand other things. A well-trained staff to answer the phones and handle and care for the animals and keep the place clean. And those people get benefits and days off and there are payroll taxes and insurance. How many doctors own their own building, have to buy all of that equipment and have a dozen people working for them??? Your exam fee is paltry for quality care if you think about it!!!!!

Does Omega-3 fish oil have the same health effects on dogs as it does for humans?

Posted on February 13th, 2010 by admin

Omega-3 fish oil can help prevent arthritis, and also apparantelly helps your mental health… that’s for humans. Would it have the same effect on dogs if they took one capsule on a regular basis? And would it be safe?

If it’s safe and it’ll help their health, I want to start giving my two dogs a capsule of fish oil each day with their breakfasts.

My sister’s vet recommended fish oil for her dogs.
