I am a small scale standard poodle breeder . I wouldnt give up my babies for nothing in the world. I show them also . I wish everyone knew how awesome these dogs are.I am glad people are looking to learn about them. as for conformation you want them to be square as the length of the legs from pad to wither(shoulder) should be the same as the length from chest to rump. eyes should be almond shaped and all points should be black(nose, eye rims, ect)unless you have a brown then all that is brown too

It really doesn’t tell HOW to select a standard poodle, it just tells about things to consider if you are thinking about the breed. I was expecting more about the confirmation, health things one can look for, etc. But I own a standard and love her and she can be frou frou if she chooses to sit and look the part….but most of the time she’s the biggest goof in the world.

    The breed …
The breed originated in Germany as a water retriever. The stylish “Poodle clip” was designed by hunters to help the dogs move through the water more efficiently. The patches of hair left on the body are meant to protect vital organs and joints which are susceptible to cold.
