australian shepherds are good i have one and its black tan and white. ALOT less fur and they look like a puppy when older :]

well if you really want small you could get a tri colored shetland sheepdog or a lil bigger a tri collie they come in long and short hair. if that is not right for you you might try a min pin has somewhat similar markings or rot. manchester terrier, doberman. lots of dogs with those markings even pitbulls come in tri color. you could just search tri colored dogs if none of these breeds sound good for you

There are MANY dogs with this coat pattern. Collies, Shelties, Aussies, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, I think Chihuahuas as well, Border Collies, APBTs to name a few.

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog? They are smaller than the Bernese but they are still very large dogs. They have short fur.

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Appenzell Mountain Dog, and Entlebucher Mountain Dog.
They are all related to the Bernese Mountain Dog, but have shorter fur.

Some Shetland Sheepdogs, Chihuahua's, Australian Shepherds and some Minature Pinchers come in the Black/White/Tri colors that Bernese Mountain Dogs do. Maybe try looking on a Breed Color Chart?

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog,
Entlebucher Mountain Dog,
Appenzeller Sennenhunde

are proabably the closest to the Bernese Mountain dog.

temperment, Energy Require, Grooming intended living conditon are much more important considerations then the colour of the coat. Coat colour isn’t an important consideration.

A Rottweiler or even a Dotson, they have short hair or if you don't want a dog that may be a little aggressive like a Rottweiler then look for a dog that has Bernese mountain dog in its bloodline.

I believe the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is smaller than the BMD. They also have short coats.

However, this should not be your only criteria for getting a dog if that’s why you’re asking. A dog’s personality and whether the temperament fits your lifestyle should be the deciding factor.
