A bit of a unpleasent question about my dogs health?

Posted on April 2nd, 2010 by admin

I recently had my dog at kennels for a week, a place I had used often before. Since we got him home he seems to have a constant whitish gunk coming from the tip of his penis. Any ideas what this could be? He is an 18 month old chocolate lab.

my black labrador has that somtimes, its sperm/ smegma… it starts to appear now and then when they mature, its like a dog sign of adolescence

*edit*
why am i getting thumbs down, i have labs both have the same going on with them, also google will tell you what i said ^ some people are dumb… im being serious… not trolling

It could be an infection or it could be just sperm.

You should see a vet to make sure

Since you don’t know what he was exposed to at the kennel, I would take him to the vet to just be sure.

It isn’t sperm and it isn’t pus!
Its a perfectly normal discharge known as smegma.

If the dog is NOT neutered, it could be sperm. If he IS neutered, I hate to say this (sounds gross) but take a sample and smell it. If it has a bad odor, there is a good chance that he has a bladder infection. I groomed a dog once who had "gunk" coming out of his penis (in his case it was yellow/green in color) and stunk to high heaven. I told the owner (who had never noticed it!) and he went to the vet. Sure enough, the dog had an infection that was easily cured with antibiotics. I would check with your vet.
    Good luck!

Looks like he picked up the clap!

On the bright side, you don’t have to feel guilty about leaving him at the kennel anymore.

Seriously – I am not sure that normal smegma would be "constant" for days. In my experience w/my two male dogs it is not.

Sounds as though your dog has balanitis, which is caused by a rise in testosterone levels. It could be that your dog has been kept around a b_tch in season which would cause this. I suggest a visit to the vet to rule out infection.
