Dogs

My dog has gone through two surgeries for bladder stones and to help prevent it she needs to be on a urinary diet. She well not eat the c/d hills sience diet so i wondered if there were other dry foods out there for urinary tract health besides science diet.

No dog will starve if there is food in the bowl. Just offer the food until she eats it.

   Add cider vinegar to her water to shift the pH, just as people are told to drink cranberry juice. 1 teaspoon of Apple cider vinegar to about 3 quarts of water and change daily. She won’t even notice it. Make sure you get apple cider vinegar and not use the regular white vinegar. I know tons of owners and breeders who use this, but if you have any concerns, call your vet and ask if it’s OK.

   Feeding a raw diet tends to help urinary tract problems because raw meat is mostly water. 70% usually. That means she will get plenty of water to keep her urine from being concentrated enough to form stones. It also helps by keeping out the toxins dogs get from kibble.

   Dogs are carnivores, and as such, they should be eating meat, bones, and organs. Too many of the ingredients in kibble are not meat, bones, organs. They are grains, veggies, etc. Would you feed a horse a steak? Then why feed a dog grains/veggies?
