Vet visit – $30
Deworming/shots – $20
spay (f)/neuter (m) – $70 – $300 *depending on size of the dog*
flea/tick pill called Comfortis – $15
yard spray – $15
microchip – $40

You’ll need to get shots & deworming done at 9 wks, 12 wks and 16 wks. You’ll need Comfortis and yard spray every month. The microchip and spay/neuter can be done at 4 months of age (16 wks). Total for the first 8 wks you have the dog =approximately $270

After that it will be $30 per month and $50 per year (shots).

"Somebody" posted and it’s right about on with the average of about $600 a year between vaccines, spay/neuter and having the dog on heartworm and flea and tick preventative monthly. We have an almost 3 YO large breed dog that’s very healthy and that’s about what’s in our budget for her.

BUT: remember that there’s always that chance that you need to expect the unexpected: the dog eats something stupid , gets a cut, comes down with even a short-term illness and you can add $500- $1000 on to that.

To be on the safe side, realistically budget about $100 a month.

I adopted my dog from a foster home, and they got her from an animal shelter. So the first years' shots and treatments were totally free, and so was the spaying. I bet you could find a dog in a shelter that has all that done. I had to pay nothing for a year because they did all that at their own cost. I paid $100 to adopt, then no medical money for a whole years. I do not have her microchipped; she is an inside dog and never goes outside unless I am with her and she is leashed; we have leash laws so it's illegal here to let them outside loose. You will have to buy monthly flea and heartworm meds. That runs about $20 a month or so. Plus food, treats, beds, leashes, collars, kennel, house, ear cleaner, toothbrush and paste, nail clippers, shampoo, bowls, brushes, grooming tools, but you only have to buy those things one time. Total cost should be under $500. Yearly shots, bloodwork, and checkup will be about $100.

Okay, getting your dog neutered will cost $100. Heart worm pills will cost $80 that will lastfor about a year. checkup is around $30. Shots are around $50. If you gat all the shots and stuff they need at the vet it will get very expensive. Being spayed is even more exspensive like $50 more. Good luck with you rents!

I did the math once, and figured that my pup’s first year cost me around $500-600 or so in vet care… and that was just the routine stuff.. shots, wormings, neuter, microchip, heartworm test/preventative… that doesnt even account for any minor illness or injuries.

She's not even a year old yet and $600 on vet bills have been spent (spaying, vaccinations, etc)..she haven't had any serious health problems.
