What are the symptoms of heartworms in dogs?

Posted on March 17th, 2010 by admin

My dog is really skinny and he coughs all the time and shivers. He’s 8 or 9 yrs and I think he might have heartworms.

Coughing can be a symptom. Unfortunately, its usually too late to treat by the time symptoms appear. Still, take your dog to the vet, they may be able to help. It may be something other than heartworms. You should get a heartworm test every year and use a preventative monthly. It isn’t expensive, way less expensive than trying to treat heartworms and will save your dog a lot of suffering and misery.

Rather than watch the dog suffering, why have you not taken it to the Vet??? I am assuming he has given you 8 or 9 years of loyal companionship and you don’t even treat his health problems????

Time for the vet! If you have been giving your dog Heartguard every month as you are supposed to, then I would say heartworms are less likely. It’s probably another illness, but you need to TAKE HIM TO THE VET!
