Are shih tzu/maltese dogs ok being left home while I am at school?

I really want to get a shih tzu/maltese mix, but I don’t know if he will be ok for six hours alone while I am at school. What do you think?
usually small dogs have small bladders so it depends
will someone be home to take him out? if not I would say either crate train (but thats a long time) or maybe a cat? they tend to be the ones that can handle all that time on their own

Don’t worry , 6 hours isn’t as long for a dog as it sound !
I have a shih tzu and some days he is alone for six hours cause my mum and dad are working
Sometimes i come home so i can spend time with him, but not all the time
Your dog would be fine for 6 hours, as long as he has fresh water and some toys he can play with !

YES HE’LL BE OK MY DOGS STAYS HOME FOR 6 HOURS TOO BUT HIS BOWL ALWAYS HAS FOOD AND WATER WITH SOME ICE IN IT AND HES TOYS ARE SPREAD OUT AND I LEAVE THE RADIO ON SO HE DOESNT FEEL ALONE .. AND HES GOTTEN USED TO ME LEAVING FOR SCHOOL SO HE DOESNT CRY LIKE HE USED TOO WHEN HE WAS A BABY
. I STILL REMEBER WHEN I COULD HEAR HIM FROM MY BUS STOP CRYING 
BUT KNOW HES FINE WITH IT BUT WHEN I GET HOME HE GOES CRAZY AND DOESNT STOP LICKING ME FOR OVER 10 MINTUES LOL

I used to have a shih tzu and it was fine being alone for eight hours. (School) It should be fine for six hours.

Probably not at first, but better get it soon like over the summer, if getting a puppy. Then you’ll be out of school and be able to get it up to speed and house trained. Then it should be fine for six hours at a stint if it’s got the whole house to roam. Dogs sleep a lot, but going for a walk and playing with it every day, every single day a couple times a day has got become your life long habit.

Yes he will be fine. Just make sure he has water and food.

If he/she was crate trained and you insert safe toys (ones that won’t allow for a choking hazard) there shouldn’t be a problem. I would talk to neighbours after the first day (if they are friendly) and ask them to let you know if your dog barks or cries incessantly.
