We are looking at getting a shitzu x maltese puppy, but do not want it to develop a really flat looking face and overbite. The dad is pure bred maltese and the mother is maltese cross shitzu ( but has a flat nose and overbite) what are the puppies chances of taking the mothers traits?

well there is obviously a 25 percent chance that the dog will have more shihtzu characteristics. My purebred Mini Schnauzer mated with a Shihtzu (not planned) and she had 7 puppies 4 of them looked more schnauzer ie. long snout, normal teeth. and the other 3 looked like shihtzu’s all the way. But you can tell within a few weeks which ones look more maltese and which look more shihtzu.
