How do i keep my dog from getting jealous when i pet other dogs?
Posted on February 18th, 2010 by admin
Our yard is connected to our neighbors and our to dogs play all the time. I’ve noticed that when i pet the other dog mine will growl a little and just today when i was petting the other one they started fighting. WHat should i do?
This is people resource guarding, share your attention and show your guy there is enough love to go around… keep your dog under control and stop any growls, barks or fights before they start. Don’t allow yourself to get in the middle of a dog fight, you will probably get hurt.

make an imaginary circle around your body that the other dogs are allowed. but yours is not and ignore your dog. that should teach your pet to respect your space.

You must teach your dog to associate the presence of other dogs with affection from you. So go through a period of a few weeks when you make sure that when she is outside and you see other dogs out there, pet your dog and make a fuss. Ignore the other dogs at first. When there are no other dogs out there ignore your dog. After a while your dog will learn that when the other dogs are outside it means that she will be getting affection from you. This will help. Play with your dog more, increase your bond, when you are alone together in the house, and when you are outside and the other dog is out there. This should make your dog feel more secure. Finally, after this, you should see if you can get the two dogs together to play with you in an activity in the backyard or better yet on a walk. Hope this helps.

I agree with Monica… make your dog associate your petting other dogs with good things… throw your dog a treat, praise your dog… all while petting the other dog.

Your dog might not be jealous. She just might be protecting you. Making sure that you are still her owner.
If she is jealous then you might want to stay away from them while they are together so that they don’t get in fights. If it keeps happening ignore the other dog when yours is out with you. Your dog just wants to make sure that you still love her.
