Pet deer-dog

This is our pet deer Fern she’s a one year old orphaned whitetail doe who we adopted when she was one week old. She lives with us on our 9,000 acre private ranch in MI. When she was an infant we kept her in the house and as she grew we slowly transitioned her to living in the wild. Even though she is a free roaming animal she loves to come home to visit every morning for a nice meal and a good massage! She’s the sweetest thing. We love her.

As she got older we …
As she got older we slowly adapted her to living in the wild and now she is fully adapted and capable of surviving on her own. Even though she is a tame we still know she is a wild animal and respect that fact and we don’t recommend anyone having a wild animal as a pet. She eats, sleeps and grazes with the other wild deer and is only let in the house very rarely for only a few minutes at a time for a little extra pampering!

Just so everyone …
Just so everyone knows she is a free roaming deer. When this video was shot she was only in the house for 20 minutes or so. The only reason she is so tame is because we raised her from the time she was a week old. She was an orphan and the only reason we took her is because we were 100% positive her mother was dead and we had permission from the DNR.

We don’t know when …
We don’t know when they are coming! The ECO said Monday it will be reported today but wouldn”t tell us when they were coming! We don”t want to escalate things right now but definitely will be calling the media if they step foot on our property to take her away! We also have our video camera ready! Not sure where a safe place for relocation would be! hunting season right now and she is so friendly she goes right up to the local hunters.

So they are actually going to go out of their way today to catch her to put her down? I would be raising a stink that the news crew and papers would love to get ahold of. Or hell, hide her. Do something to protect her. Know anyone with a horse or cattle trailer? Relocate.

we live in NY. DEC …
we live in NY. DEC is the Department of Enviromental Conservation.Hard for us to believe too! She is the sweetest gentlest Deer. We raised one 15 years ago and she acclimated to the wild just fine. We had her for 11 years. I just don’t get it!
Someone told us they (the DEC)are just covering there behinds…Yeah there is a couple stories on internet about tame deer being euthanized.

What state do you …
What state do you live in and what does DEC stand for again? In Kentucky, you can have a permit to contain a deer and it is fairly inexpensve. But if they aren’t caged, they can’t do a dang thing about them hanging around. I have never heard of something being euthanized because it is tame, that is why I was questioning you.

Just to clear …
Just to clear things up! She is already lose. She has been free to roam since she was 3 weeks old! We are surrounded by 400 acres but there is a small hamlet about 1/3 mile away she likes to go and visit people! She is only 6 months old!

anniepeterson76….I don”t know what part of story your not buying. I was looking for our youtube video but it was under” pet deer and squirrel” I came across your videos and wanted to warn you of the DEC getting wind of your precious deer. We put orange collar on her to protect her and they got mad and said we could not do that and …he could have been just blowing off steam but definitely said would have to euthanize her because “she can”t be going up to people!” This is not a joke!

heavenlyblue, I am curious why you looked up these videos and left the same comment on all of us who have raised deer? And you just joined youtube yesterday to do this? Who is DEC and what would be a reason behind putting a tame deer down? I have never heard something so ridiculous and I am pretty certain they would place any deer in a sanctuary or order you to turn them loose before they would come euthanize. Not buying the story.

How Adorable!!! We have a deer named daisy and she is soo gentle and beautiful and DEC is going to euthanize her because she is too friendly!!! We are all soooo sad!
