Can cats or dogs get sick from you?

My wife and child and I all have the flu which sucks but we have a cat and in my delusional 2 days straight of no sleep (I cant sleep when im sick) I thought to myself can cats or dogs catch the flu or cold from a human? If anyone has some answers please let me know.

YES they can especially dogs not so much cats it is harder for them to catch things of humans but dogs def do mine always catches our colds and tummy bugs my cat caught tonsillitis off my daughter

    no, they can’t. don’t worry.

    You can’t get sick from cats/dogs either.

    We aren’t closely related enough (species wise) to have viruses cross the species barrier from canines/felines to human beings.

    *Ring worms and other parasites are an exception (since technically they aren’t viruses)

    yes and you can get sick from them too. Remember rabies and how ppl get it. It goes both ways. They can get both colds and flu from you and you can get it from them too, strangely enough. Pretty much any mammalian disease can bounce between pets and owners. FYI a mammalian disease is a disease that only affects mammals. And yes, ppl are mammals too.

    It is possible, but it doesn’t happen very often. Viruses normally "specialize" in attacking just one or two species.
