which brands kill dogs and puppies or makes them sick?
Posted on April 16th, 2010 by admin
does IAMS smart puppy make dogs sick and which other brands make them sick and which brands don’t… what if my four month old boy puppy, CHeerio , threw up once and is still peppy, hyper and acting OK?
I believe only wet/canned foods were affected by the recall, check it out here to make sure, i know a lot of iams food pouches were affected & couldve made your dog sick, but im pretty sure you feed dry food which wasnt affected. Make sure though here: www.menufoods.com/recall
Even if your food wasnt affected by it, i think you should still see a vet about him throwing up.

I’ve been hearing Eukaneuba (sp?) is the culprit of the bad food.
As far as I know, IAMS and Eukaneuba are 2 completely different companies.
As long as your pup doesn’t start throwing up more consistently (like every few hours or less) I’d say he just ate too much or too quick and he’s fine.

If you’re feeding him DRY dog food, you don’t have to worry at all. The recall only affected wet foods from cans or pouches.

It’s the "wet" foods that have the contaminated wheat gluten. The dry foods are safe. I also feed my puppy IAMS Smart Puppy so when the news first broke I really did my research. Canned foods and the foods and "moist treats" in foil pouches are the ones to steer clear of.

Here is the link that lists all the food brands being recalled and each is a link to the specific products lists being recalled. If you have given Cheerio any of the recalled food and even he only threw up once you should take him to a vet to be checked. It is better to be safe than sorry and if something is wrong you will have vet verified proof.
I recommend that you feed Cheerio hard kibble made by Purina- I chose ProPlan. I have never had any problems with Purina foods for over 25 yrs. They are a company dedicated to making quality foods for a variety of animals. If he prefers moist foods mix some of the Purina Moist with his hard kibble.
IAMS does not have a good reputation for maintaining the quality that they once did and the price is still on the high end.
**********************************************************************
Please note that Purina is not on the list but most of the high dollar- over-priced foods like IAMS & NutroMax are on there. The really cheap generic foods are on this list as well.
Choose a petfood company whose name is not on the list!!!!
**********************************************************************
I hope for yours and Cheerio’s sake that there are no ill effects from the food that you fed him. Good Luck!

Go to http://www.menufoods.com/recall & they will let you know all the foods that were recalled. As far as I know it was only pouches & can food!! Have to change both my cat & dog food because of this even though they have not gotten sick but my cat is pregnant. I fed them both America’s Choice perffered & my pup got O’Roy!! They have been to the vet & so far so go!!
Our vet said to look out for bloody diarehhea, watery diarehhea, being tired all the time not wanting to play eat or drink. If any of these I suggest that you call your vet. Even my brother (who is a vet) had to change his cat & dog food but at least he knows what to do!!
